“The Bawa Health Initiative (BHI) is a Non-Governmental Organization established for the purpose of reducing the prevalence of endemic diseases in the village of Bawa, Cameroon and other neighboring villages. Our goals are to treat, empower, and educate through interventions, collaboration, and ongoing research.”
Our Goals:
Provide primary health care to residents of Bawa and neighboring villages.
Reduce the prevalence of infectious diseases through education and prevention.
Supply clean drinking water to all residents of Bawa and neighboring villages. Build and maintain a primary health clinic in Bawa.
Educate the general public about the heavy toll on humanity taken by parasitic diseases in the developing world.
These shall be accomplished through
educational programs on health
diagnosis and treatment of various infectious diseases
activities and programs leading to the provision of potable water
control of harmful microorganisms contaminating the environment
improvement of general public health and sanitation in Bawa and neighboring villages by
providing education
health care supplies
transportation to clinics
bringing physicians to the community
practices that are conducive to protection and sustainability of the natural environment
completion and publication of biological research reporting the results of health
initiatives conducted and the general natural history of the area.
participation of Bawa and neighboring village citizens to participate in paid research studies.
the attempt not to interfere with or alter traditional customs, beliefs, or religious practices of Bawa and neighboring villages.
sustainability of all interventions, including the clinic and health education center, ultimately maintained by the villagers themselves.
